40 Year Anniversary
2021 is a milestone year for Core Electrical as we celebrate our 40th year in business. We’ve come a long way since our debut as a wholesale business in 1981. Today, we are proud to be a market leader in cable management products that are distributed all-Ireland.
A Timeline of the Company History
1981
Core Electrical was established in 1981 by the directors of Dublin based electrical wholesale company, BKC Electrical; When Marshall-Tufflex appointed them sole distributors in Ireland for their range of PVC-U Cable Management solutions, Jim Cloughley and Tommy Keeley soon recognised that there were other manufacturers out there who wished to do business in Ireland but who were unable to justify the set-up costs associated with establishing a local presence. Soon enough, Core started to form strategic partnerships with other manufacturers and act as the independent Sales, Logistics and Accounts partner for a number of these manufacturers to this day.
The name Core Electrical has a dual origin. It refers to the copper core found in electrical cables. Furthermore, it relates to the original location where the company was set up and still operates today – Inchicore in Dublin.
1997
1997 saw the Keeley family acquire the business and under the guidance of Tony Keeley and his management team Core has continued to expand its cable management offering and become a pioneer in Underfloor to Desk Power Distribution and Modular Wiring Solutions in the Irish market.
2011
In 2011, following several requests to extend our activities into Northern Ireland, we established Core Electrical (Northern Ireland) in Belfast. Meanwhile, we had continued to grow and diversify our activity, taking on board more manufacturing brands and exploring new routes to market. Working more closely with end-clients, consultant engineers, developers, office furniture companies and electrical contractors, we started supporting major construction projects by offering turnkey solutions that contribute to creating modern, reliable and cost-effective electrical installations. Contingently, we pursued our distribution activity, continuing to extend our loyal network of wholesale partners.
2016
Our growth and evolving activities led us to undertake a major rebranding and repositioning to align our image with the company strategy. This saw the creation of the Core | Power in Progress branding, for which we got awarded Highly Commanded ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’ the following year at the 2017 Ireland’s Electrical Awards. It also resulted in the identification of two distinct activities – Wholesale Support and Project Support.
2020
The Core Electrical Group is now the mother company for Core Distribution and Core Solutions:
Core Distribution assumes Core Electrical’s original activity; to bring and distribute electrical systems from leading international brands to wholesalers and contractors in two markets, Ireland and Northern Ireland. We currently work with an ever growing list of brand partners, supply 16 product ranges and over 110k product references.
Core Solutions provide intelligent electrical solutions that contribute to accelerated project delivery and outstanding building efficiency.
In the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, our teams work tirelessly to supply medical, isolation and testing centres.
2021
Core Distribution are recognised as Ireland’s Distributor of the Year 2020 in a fitting tribute to the company’s success spanning over 40 years. We also receive the Highly Commended ‘Product of the Year’ for the incredibly innovative Ferret WiFi Camera from Super Rod. These distinctions recognise Core as the market-leader for Cable Management in Ireland and as a major player in the electrical industry.
